We have some rookies in the club, and this would be a good opportunity to get them on the air, and to get our other members on the air to work rookies. After converting the UTC time to local, I get this: ARRL Rookie Roundup Sunday August 15 2 PM - 7:59 PM EDT This particular Rookie Roundup will be SSB. Bands are 75, 40, 20, 15, 10 and 6 meters. Sunset is at 7:57 PM EDT Soooooo, I was thinking that this would be a good opportunity to get our rookies on the air with some quality equipment, get out and about as a club, and show some public visibility as we have fun operating. So, I propose the following: See if we can use the Hilltown Civic Field location to operate. It has picnic tables (mesh metal tops), a covered area with AC electric supply, and the operating area is close to the parking lot. The operating area is near the walking trail, so we would get maximum visibility. I'd like to hear some discussion of this. Is is a good idea? Would you, yourself, be interested in helping a rookie? Can you provide a station (I think the club station is currently on loan)? In addition to the rookie roundup operation, club members would be welcome to set up and operate other modes. And for the rookies out there - would you be interested in participating in the rookie roundup? Discussion, please. There may be others, and we could certainly invite folks who attended license exam sessions recently. The limit is licensed 3 years to be a rookie. Ruless are rookies work everyone for points, non-rookies can only get points for contacts with rookies. I can provide several mobile whip antennas (heli-whip designs), or for dipoles, inverted V's or wire verticals, I have the 30' military mast kit, and the 30+ foot kite pole. We would be too close to the glider port to use kites or balloons. As soon as I see sufficient interest, I'll contact the township for any permits we may need.
